This Mortal Coil

about

We spent the greater part of that year upon the Sacred Mountain of my mother's home and walked the Long-trail by her side as she entered into the place of the Ancestors. The pilgrimage was wholly devastating and wondrous at once. At times, the veil between the worlds was so thin that the Spirits spoke through our mother's tongue to us. Other times she would describe the way the winds in the high mountains of Tibet felt on her face; the Black Owl that sat upon her arm-- she held her arm out, stroking the emptiness and gazing into the eyes of her guide in wonderment. The poem of Beowulf fell from her lips in a perfect dialect that i have only heard once before in my lifetime. And we went on like that, down, into the underworld, where she offered her body to the elements with such grace as a Valkyrie to the sea.
This song was revealed to us in the throes of our grief, as a gift, an elixir, reminding us to sit inside of our pain, as our Earth who has bore the weight of a thousand kings and sheds not a tear. For betwixt and between these sacraments of suffering, the spirit grows ever potent.

lyrics

Take me to the Mountain
My blood and bones belong

Spirit, open
This Mortal Coil

Unwinding, awaiting you there,
In the darkness, unwinding

A place that cannot be seen
But is felt hanging there
And will be forever
Forever in the ether

Longing for whats long past
Wanting whats long gone

For nothing lasts
It will pass
Everything fades
Before it turns to black

Be with me here now
By the fireside
This isn’t meant to last
Embrace me now

Before our blood dries
And our bones turn to dust

For nothing lasts
Nothing lasts

Before i lay my bones barren
Be with me here and now
